Discussion platform?
So after going through issue 2005, and the mention of his alias, I took a look at some of the previous requests put in by Midnight Arrow. Don’t need to get into the weeds here but now my brain is bubbling with possibilities . He/she seemed to have some good insight into the areas I was fuzzy on, like the armatures and such, and getting the original verts as an output.
Anyway, would be interesting to collaborate on this stuff, and I wonder if there’s potential to develop additional features and such if we can help take an occasional load off Thomas. There’s some discussion on the DAZ forums, I think, but from a development standpoint, the only way (that I know of) folks have to communicate w/ you guys (Thomas / Alessandro) is through creating “issues” in here, like I’m doing now, and no live discussion.
Maybe that’s deliberate , and I totally get it if it’s just not something y’all want to take on, but I’m wondering if something like a Diffeomorphic Discord server has been considered? I’m just picturing with issue 2005, again, if there were a server and a “geonodes” channel, among others, then people like myself & Midnight Arrow might be able to collaborate and come up with some cool additions, etc…
Anyway, just a suggestion. I know that might open other doors like needing to moderate and such, but just wanted to throw the idea up.

reporter Yeah totally. Basically I think a Discord server would serve discussions in general. The one I mentioned was just an example. Like for example, maybe someone like Midnight Arrow has an interesting idea with nodes, but it doesn’t make sense for Thomas to prioritize that over bugs and more impactful features like BVH and such--but someone like me might be able to be the bridge there.
But really, I’m referring to some platform for a live discussion in general. Discord is just the one that makes sense to me.
Another use is if someone has a simple question, or something that has been covered and is solvable with a blog post link, then it’s time-consuming for you guys to field that in Bitbucket’s issues tracker--or when other community folks might be able to answer/build on the knowledge as well.
Of course, there is the other side to this, as in running something like that takes some time and effort in its own right, and dumb stuff like age verification for NSFW content, etc... So like I said, I definitely get it if it’s not something either of you are interested in. There might be other platforms that are better for the purpose too, or maybe it’s just not worth it
There’s a Discord channel for DAZ called Daz3D Slackers. Much more geared towards being in DAZ, and I don’t actually pay it much mind, but Diffeomorphic is, of course, mentioned in there, so an alternative might be we suggest/ask the mods there if they’d be willing to add a Diffeomorphic channel there.

repo owner Hardwire created an unofficial Discord channel called Unofficial Diffeo, cf the last post on the thread https://bitbucket.org/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/issues/90/faq-or-forum-for-the-plugin. I don’t frequent it because I’m too busy here, but it seems like I can create invitation that lasts for seven days.

reporter Cool, thanks! Imma put a development section there as a suggestion.

As for me, I only give some help to Thomas but don’t write code, not here anyway. I learned a little python to make my own rigs that’s all.
