Add un-slave dome from scope?

Issue #654 closed
Ron Kramer created an issue

I’m exploring the great new sequencer instruction set. I’m creating my default setup and in doing so I have come to the ending commands.

At this point I usually UNSLAVE the dome from the scope. The reason for this is I park the scope in a weights up, face down position. If the dome is slaved. This moves the dome to a STRANGE unwanted place. Because it’s trying to slave to the mount.

IF I send a dome PARK - will it? Or will it be SLAVED to the mount? My question, if a DISABLE DOME SYNC command needed?
I guess I’m asking will DOME PARK over ride the DOME SYNC? Or will it go to PARK then resync to mount position?

[ I can’t test because my scope is in for repair - but maybe I can disconnect the drive motors and perform tests with the counterweights disengaged. ]

N.I.N.A. doesn’t do slavery, but the dome is following instead 😉

On a serious note, we can introduce a separate item to disable dome synchronization for the sequencer, then you can control when to engage or disengage the dome following.

I disengaged weights - did a test and it worked, but that was because I have a unslave command in my script I call. The script was to make up for the short comings of NINA with no dome support. I would like to eliminate the script… in which case we’d need a DE SELECT scope sync. So sure - if you could add one that would be great. NO HURRY.

Ron, parking the dome disables the sync. That’s the way I’d generally expect people to finish a sequence, which is why I didn’t add an item to disable sync directly. Does that work for you?

When closing up at the end of a session, our club’s dome must be rotated so that the shutter faces southeast, away from the prevailing winds here which could blow rain in under it and put stress on it. Naturally this azimuthal orientation is much different from where the parked mount is pointing the telescope. I think you’re doing something similar?

If so, I think in this case, dome and mount park would be the same, and since dome-mount sync is disabled upon parking the dome, you can just have an additional close-out step after that which rotates the dome to its “sleep” azimuthal position. When you start back up, you would have a command that sends the dome to park which should line it back up with the mount, and then you can carry on with operations. Am I reading your situation right?

Dome park position can typically be set independently of the mount park. Mine for example is set to a location where the shutter batter charger is, which isn’t the same as the mount park (which is @0 degrees)
