N.I.N.A Constantly Crashing in combination with Celestron CPWI

Issue #811 closed
Graham Conaty created an issue

I connected my Celestron CGX to N.I.N.A for the first time today, however, I had some pretty significant issues with N.I.N.A constantly crashing.

I connected my Celestron CGX to CPWI initially and then connected to N.I.N.A using the CPWI driver. The mount would slew initially, however, whenever I switched from N.I.N.A into CPWI or Stellarium and then back again N.I.N.A would crash. This happened repeatedly.

I also had some issues trying to load the profile I had saved in N.I.N.A.

I’ve attached a couple of logs from the sessions today in the hope they might provide some insight into what is going on.

A first guess about the profiles looks like something else is accessing these and blocking nina. Are you running some third party anti virus software? Sometimes these cause issues due to accessing files and blocking the application.

As for the crashes - can you describe which kind of crash? Just application hanging and closing or what is the behavior

    Stefan,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I’m running a new laptop at the moment. I believe the only anti virus software on it is the software which is inbuilt by HP.

The crashes almost always occurred whilst the mount was slewing. I would select the mount to ‘stop’ in N.I.N.A and then immediately afterwards the interface would freeze to the point where I had to enter the task manager to be able to close N.I.N.A.

This happened on at least 5 or 6 occasions throughout the day.

It seemed to happen more so when I connected the mount to CPWI and then connected to N.I.N.A using the CPWI driver. I wasn’t sure if there was a bug between N.I.N.A and CPWI.

Also, when trying to load profiles, I keep getting a ‘Cannot load profile. It is already in use by another N.I.N.A instance’. I’m not sure what this means.

Apologies, this is the most recent log from this afternoon. It has a few more errors listed. I'm hoping it may provide some more information.

I’ve been playing around with it a bit more and I think I may have figured out what is causing the problem,. albeit I have no idea what the fix would be.

The issue appears to be when the telescope is slewing.

If I slew to a target and use the manual controls in N.I.N.A to either stop it or adjust it then N.I.N.A crashes. This is when it is connected to CPWI.

If I slew to a target in N.I.N.A and then go into CPWI to stop the mount or return it to it’s home position then N.I.N.A doesn’t appear to crash.

I’m not sure if that is of any help but it looks as though it is the manual telescope controls when paired with CPWI which is causing the problem.

From the problem description this looks like a driver issue when using the nudge buttons that take down the nina app. As these buttons work with other drivers, this must be a cpwi specific issue which needs to be fixed by cpwi.
