Observatory Control?

Issue #87 resolved
Former user created an issue

Hi,

NINA is an impressive piece of software, particularly as it's free! However, for me, the main thing it lacks is the ability to automatically control my Pulsar dome observatory. Are there any plans to allow observatory control via ASCOM drivers?

Thanks, Hugh

    Hey there,

currently we did not have any plans for domes, as no one requested it yet. But on the long run support for it will come.

Source code for dome might be possible to get from POTH.

I'm not able to help you code, but i could probably help you with access to an observatory with a dome if that helps?

It would definitely help and be hugely appreciated but it's not a priority for any of us right now.

We haven't looked deeply into that yet so it's hard to say what will be required and how much we can do without dome access.

Ideally you could come to our Discord and we can talk about it there to further flesh out the implications and what would be required.

I’d be happy to help test when are ready. I have a Technical Innovations dome with MaxDome II controllers.

ASCOM support of a dome would be great. With out that, I can’t use NINA for a fully automated imaging session. I’m happy support testing with my ScopeDome.

    I see 2 main use-cases:

    1, Normal operations for emaging:
    1. Open Shutter if Telescom unparks and sync dome azimute with telescome
    2. Slave dome via the telescpe.
    3. If telescope goes to park, close the shutter and move the dome to the park position of the dome (not necessary the same as the one of the telescope

    2. As part of the FLATs-creation, allow to move the dome to a specific position
Background: I have a FLAT-panel mounted on the rotating part of the dome. If the telescope is in the park position, I rotate the dome to a define poition and then the flat panel is exactly in fron if the scope for doing FLATs.
