Salesforce Local Development Server using Illuminated Cloud

Issue #2207 resolved
Arnas Baronas created an issue

Is there any possibility to run Salesforce Local Development Server using Illuminated Cloud?
It seems easy to do so using VSCode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eRFE4t2VyU), but I wasn’t able to found any information about this kind of feature for Illuminated Cloud. If this feature already exist, could you please share the resource that would help to setup it?

Salesforce provided the following update on this via GitHub:

Hi all - thank you so much for the renewed interest in this plugin! Unfortunately, our team will not be making any updates to this project this year, but we will be revisiting this next year. We're aware that this product has not been updated in quite sometime and will be evaluating its usage and the desired features before investing in it further next year. We've had some internal changes that have limited bandwidth for the year, so I appreciate everybody's patience on this.

In the meantime, please feel free to continue to post feedback - #143. We'll take this into account as we plan for the upcoming year.

If Salesforce will not be investing in this, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to do so in IC2. If/when there is new momentum from Salesforce--hopefully just readying it for open source--I will return to this work myself. In the interim, the manual steps documented previously do work well and are actually quite simple to implement:

Hi. I did provide this information when that feature was first released:

It’s actually quite simple to use if not a 100% integrated solution.

Interestingly you’re the second person in the past few weeks to ask about this specifically after literally years of no one expressing an interest. I’ll use this issue to track any work against that and, perhaps more importantly from a prioritization standpoint, to gauge interest in it via votes.

I wasn’t aware about this feature before Dreamforce’22. There were some people that displayed their presentations using Salesforce Local Development Server. It could be that a lot of people are still unaware of this feature, but it starts gaining recognition.

I thought the timing seemed more than a little coincidental. Good to know that there is likely to be more interest in the feature given the raised visibility. Thanks for letting me know!

There seems to be an open question of whether the LWC local dev server is still being developed/supported by Salesforce:

    https://github.com/forcedotcom/lwc-dev-server-feedback/issues/136

I have inquired there--and will likely do so via direct contacts as well--to see where things are going. If it’s going to be supported or open sourced, I’ll be happy to spend some time on a first-class integration. If it’s being abandoned/shelved, though, I’m not sure if that’s a good use of time given that it’s already possible to use with IC2 via the instructions posted above.

Resolving this issue in its current form based on the feedback from Salesforce. Once the new local dev approach is released, I will plan on a more first-class integration with it.
