Retention of metadata filters

Issue #216 resolved
The Wanderer created an issue

Hi, Thanks again for the great work, I love ART. Would it be possible to save the state of “metadata filters”? at the moment when I enable a certain filter for example a certain file type to be shown, when I switch folders or close the app it is being reset. It would be nice to keep the settings intact as we move around the app or close it.

    Hi,

retaining the filter when you switch dir makes sense. I’m not sure about remembering the settings between multiple runs though.

Anyway, I’ll think about this, thanks!

    Hi,

I guess it would be best if you give the option to the user to decide (in settings for example). Most people who shoot raw+jpg would agree how much pain it is each time starting ART having to first enable filters and then enable file filter then select raw files for example, same again when changing folders. Even when shooting only RAW, because ART does not have import and catalog features, I have to import and organize my photos via other apps in my case shotwell on Linux and most of those apps create embedded JPG files which creates the same problem.

    Thanks again.

What I usually do is disable parsing of jpgs altogether, by unchecking the “jpg” extension in “Preferences → File Browser → Parsed Extensions”. Not the same, but maybe it helps in the meantime?

@The Wanderer , in the Navigator you can use Ctrl+F, type your raw extension and hit OK, that’s faster than the Filter on Exif route.

But I agree that it would be nice to remember these filter settings in Filter Exif, even between sessions. A shortcut to activate them might be a good idea as well (@agriggio , Ctrl+E [for exif] seems to be available, goes well with Ctrl+I for the Inspector).

Last suggestion: I think people will be more inclined to filter on file type than on exposure compensation, so place the file type selector on top of the list.

Thanks for resolving this issue, It works perfectly and makes my life and many others so much easier. I’m glad you put the file type setting at the top and the fact that in settings it is possible to enable/disable retaining the filters. Great job!
