Karma and Authenticated Senders

Issue #542 resolved

Is it possible to bypass karma checks for IP addresses used by authenticated senders?

We have people using WiFi on home broadband services / public services like trains, hotels etc. (which are notoriously bad for their IP reputations) that are being blocked from sending emails.

Their mobile devices work elsewhere (such as their static work IP address wifi etc.) so I can confirm they have correct login details setup.

Every sender (=customer) should use port 587. Port 25 is reserved for servers only and very often blocked by ISPs...

I will keep this open, because auth should disable karma at no matter what port anyway

I don't think you can setup email accounts using port 25 on mobiles because authentication fails anyway, but I am not able to confirm the port being used. I know certainly 587 is not always successful, but this could be hotel firewall etc. I will try and get more information for you.

I think iPhone defaults to 465

Authenticated senders should not be subject to IP validation, they've already provided validation to the server passing their credentials. However, this should only be true for submission ports (465, 587).

After that it depends on your Poste.io config and whether you are subjecting sender emails to outbound SPAM checking.
