Pax Klanq quest doesn't need blueprints to do the rest of quest

I was able to accept the Pax Klanq, I presume? quest and get Pax to agree to construct the climber without having picked up Q girl’s blueprints. Upon returning to Grit Gate, I picked up the quest and attempted to speak to Pax again to give him the blueprints, but he made no reference to it. Speaking to the Elder finished the quest, even though I had never actually given the blueprints to Pax.

Unsure if it matters, but after accepting Pax’s request to spread Pax, a duosludge killed him before I left the area. I completed his quest and returned, and he appeared again, but disappeared when I went to speak to him and a sludge was in his space. Unclear if he was killed again or if something else happened. I don’t know if he can die permanently or if I was just unlucky.
