miRGate API - error
Hi,
I am trying these Perl queries with miRGate API
http://mirgate.bioinfo.cnio.es/API/api.html
and in most cases they work, but sometimes, for example here, I get an error.
There is/are 36619 predictions for hsa-miR-106a-5p
http://mirgate.bioinfo.cnio.es/ResT/API/human/miRNA_predictions/hsa-miR-1909-3p:1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
^
The query for hsa-miR-106a-5p goes fine, but for hsa-miR-1909-3p it doesn't.
The XML file for miRNA_predictions/hsa-miR-1909-3p is very big, and my browser has also problems opening it: it doesn't show the whole file if you scroll to the the bottom and it takes minutes to download the page.
Do you know what to do?

reporter Oh well, I can at least specify the method in the address:
http://mirgate.bioinfo.cnio.es/ResT/API/human/gene_miRNA_predictions/ABCD1/MIMAT0007883/Rnahybrid
This gives a shorter list and then I don't get the same error.

You can also use:
http://mirgate.bioinfo.cnio.es/ResT/API/human/miRNA_predictions/MIMAT0007883/miranda http://mirgate.bioinfo.cnio.es/ResT/API/human/miRNA_predictions/MIMAT0007883/Rnahybrid
etc

reporter Actually the same issue still occures sometimes, but more rarely, e.g.:
http://mirgate.bioinfo.cnio.es/ResT/API/human/miRNA_predictions/hsa-miR-6819-3p/Rnahybrid
67865 predictions
But one solution is to increase RAM. Can you still specify the query further?

Have you try to use the API from a program? The browser is not really the best option to do this. Some examples are included at the end of the API web page in perl. More in detail you can read our latest publication regarding mirGate API: http://link.springer.com/protocol/10.1007/978-1-4939-6866-4_15
