Copernicus DEM
Topography is an important land surface characteristic. Elevation, slope and aspect have a large impact on weather conditions and incoming solar radiation.
Purpose of data
The Copernicus DEM is used to generate information on surface characteristics (elevation, slope and aspect) required for the algorithms.
Approach
Copernicus has two DEM instances that differ in their resolution. The GLO-30 and GLO-90, which are at 30m and 90m resolution, respectively. The Copernicus DEM GLO-30 is used for level 3 and GLO-90 is used for level 1 and 2.
Alternative sources
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) created a digital elevation model (DEM) on a near-global scale at a resolution of 90m.
