MeadeAutostar497 / Settings

The driver configuration dialog contains several settings to help you get the most from your telescope.

  • Com Port - This is the com port that the driver will use to communicate with your telescope. Please note that you can connect several pieces of software to your scope via the ascom driver at the same time.

  • Trace - To help diagnose issues the driver can create a log containing all the information from a connection session. This includes information about the telescope product and firmware version in your Autostar/Autostar II/etc. This is why some features of the original Meade drivers are not visible, it's taken care of automatically for you.

  • Guide Rate - This is the rate in Arc Seconds Per Second that guide commands will be issued to the telescope. By default the rate is 67% of sidereal time. On the LX-200 range, you can adjust this value as desired.

  • Precision - The Autostar scopes can use high precision or low precision mode. In addition there is "unchanged" which will do nothing. When connecting to the telescope, the slewing rate will be set to the correct position.

But hey wait, there were settings that were present in the older drivers that are not here? Isn't that a downgrade? This is part of the approach for the development of this driver. The driver detects the product and version on connect, at that point it knows whether the scope can support specific functions so will select the appropriate commands to make the best use of your telescope.

A good example of this is that the Autostar #407 did not support the all in one guiding commands until later firmware revisions. The driver will select the old or new technique depending on the version of the driver.
