Course Format option "move sidebar to footer" doesn't display main content across full width

Under Course Format options for the theme, there is a "move sidebar to footer" option. When this is set, the sidebar content correctly positions itself below the main content. However the main content should expand across the full width of the page. It doesn't do this (it used to work but appears not to now).
