On December 23, 2018 we released a new build of Daikatana 1.3 that changed where saves, config files, and downloaded assets are located. Previously they were located in Daikatana\data but we have changed the location to Documents\My Games\Daikatana\Data. On Windows 98 due to limitations with the Windows API we still default to the original location.

The reason for this change is the increasing security permission enforcements on newer versions of Windows. During the testing phase for this build we ran into problems where users who copied their Daikatana folder over from an older Windows install were unable to save their game or their configuration changes unless the game was ran as Administrator or ownership was given to the folder.

If you do not like the new changes or want a "portable" version of Daikatana simply add a blank portable.cfg in your Daikatana\data directory. You can also start the game daikatana.exe -portable.

Please note, even with these changes that you will be unable to use the saves before the December 23, 2018 build as we had to update the network protocol for the Gun FOV feature. If you would like to warp back to where you were previously in your single player campaign please see this guide.
