New tool: Midpoint between two points.
Finding the midpoint between two points is a repetitive action. This would make it easier and quicker to make patterns.

reporter Attached .mp4 which shows how to create a Midpoint between two other points with the 'Point at distance along line' tool.
Users selects 'Point at distance along line', select the line between the points, then divide by 2. Quicker and simpler to have a separate tool and select the two points.
-
repo owner But you are asking create less flexible tool. What if use want to change behavior of that point?
-
reporter Good question.
'Options' box can allow change from '2' to another number. Default is divide by 2, but can change to 3, 2.5, 1, but not zero or negative numbers. -
repo owner Still looks like an ugly hack. Because it is still not flexible enough. 100% someone will find case where this tool will be a bottleneck. :)
-
repo owner But i see how to avoid this. What if use special modificator feature. This point can have an option Convert to 'Point at distance along line' tool.
-
reporter I hear you, this could easily be seen as user requesting special tool which in reality is wasteful 'bloat'. Finding the midpoint is a frequent action in patternmaking. On top of the traditional amount of usage, with Valentina's new 'Create curve with existing points' tool the need for a midpoint tool just skyrocketed. To the point where it is a bottleneck that there isn't a Midpoint tool. Frankly it's a pain in the ass when creating curves with existing points, to the point where I have requested this little specialized item to quickly and simply return the midpoint between two points.

No, better to have a special formula field. By default set 2. But user will rewrite the value if need. This will keep 100% flexibility we need.
So the tool will take a length of a line automatically. And divide by a formula value. How do you like this idea?
-
reporter Love it. Thanks Roman, you are a rockstar.
-
repo owner You should say me that couple of times when we were in London! :D
It would be perfect if Valentyna will take this task. Creating a tool is very regular task for this project. Of course i should create an article about creating a tool in the wiki.
-
reporter Good idea, Valentyna can make this commit. 2 weeks should be enough, right?
-
repo owner Max 3 weeks for very lazy developers. :)

The old 'create point between two points' tool would do this trick if
a) the distance between the end points could be used in a formula (even if the points have no line between them) and
b) 0.5* this distance were made the default.
Then a midpoint creation would be as quick as selecting the two points and ok'ing the dialog.
-
repo owner This is actually what was proposed. But i rather create a new special tool for this case.

Barbara, you are genius.
