We've collected a lot of small changes since 8.0.1, and are going to make a bug fix release in time for Sherwood next week.

We'll probably also want to update master of Makefiles and utils and update gs2 to use these versions of the external submodules (preferably after 112 goes in!).

If 122 is merged I plan a second PR which removes the opt_init_bc option and one version of the connected bc routines to avoid duplication.
