When opened, the application does not receive focus

Steps to reproduce:
I tried to open speedcrunch through: system menu; panel shortcut; keyboard shortcut
through Compiz; keyboard calc button through vanilla Mate keybindings

Expected behavior:
The application should appear and have focus on the text field, so I can start crunching
numbers straight ahead

Experienced behavior:
The application appears but the focus is maintained in the window I was before, so
I have to alt+tab to speedcrunch, or manually click on it before typing something there.

Product version:
0.10.1

Operating system:
Ubuntu 12.04 running Mate 1.4 or 1.6

I also experience this on Win7 when running through a Microsoft Keyboard shortcut.
