Transferring Data with Globus
About Globus
Globus is a non-profit business within the University of Chicago for managing data. Users can efficiently and reliably transfer, share, and publish files via a user-friendly web browser.
Log in Globus
You are able to use your UM ID to log in Globus. You just need to go to the login page here and choose "University of Michigan" under "Use your existing organizational login" and click on the Continue button. You can also create a Globus ID to sign in if you did not find your organization.
Create your Endpoint
If you want to transfer data to/from your local machine, you need to create an endpoint. First, download Globus Connect Personal from here and choose the appropriate option for your machine and follow the steps.
Transferring Data
For transferring data via Globus, go here. There are two side-by-side panels, used to specify and access the source and destination for your data (marked with red in the below figure). In front of the Endpoint, you can choose your destination server/machine.
For your local machine, you first have to launch Globus Connect Personal. If you have not installed it yet, go to the "Create your Endpoint" section above. You can search for Flux, Conflux, and umich@CRG to gain access to each.
Below Endpoint, enter the path you want to transfer your data to/from. Alternatively, you can navigate through files in the window below the path field. Clicking on the star symbol bookmarks a specific path (e.g. your path to the scratch directory on flux), so you can always choose it quickly.
You can also create a new folder, delete a file or do a few more actions by clicking on the three horizontal lines icon, next to share icon, as you can see in the below figure.
You can also choose one or more items (file or folder) from a server, then choose the triangle icon to transfer data (indicated with a red arrow in the below figure). Once selected, you can see the Globus task ID for the action, and the RECENT ACTIVITY shows you '1' next to the green circle (marked with red) for each file transferred, representing the active job.
You can also see the history of your transformation on the Activity section.
