Protecting terms as DNTs

Issue #805 new
mzeid created an issue

Hi Okapi team,

Is there a way to protect specific terms in a document when it's being translated by an MT Connector? I usually convert files to SDLXLIFF, then add it to Okapi Rainbow to have it translated by the MT connector. During this process, I would like to protect some terms like "Product Names, etc.". How can I do this in Okapi?

Is "<mrk mtype="protected">" supported? If yes, how to implement it exactly to protect these terms as DNTs?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Sorry to bother you again, Okapi team. I am just wondering if there is a way to protect specific terms from translation “DNTs” while using an MT Connector? I would like to protect some terms from being translated. Can I pass a list of terms to protect? Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi, sorry for the belated answer.

No there is no way to pass a list of terms to protect.
And I don’t think <mrk mtype=”protected”> is currently supported when the extracted segment is passed on to the MT connector.
That could probably done with some engines that have support for protected spans, but not all of them.

I’ll keep this issue open, and hopefully that can be addressed at some point.

Thanks @YvesS for your reply. DNT protection is becoming a necessity these days, especially with NMT making up words for out-of-vocabulary terms. So, I hope you consider this addition. It will be a great addition to Okapi.

Thanks again for keeping the issue open.

    Kind regards
