failing to build petsc4py

I believe I have successfully installed petsc in that it passed all the tests.

Now that I am trying to build petsc4py I get the following error.

error: command '/home/fpoulin/software/petsc/arch-linux2-cxx-debug/bin/mpicxx' failed with exit status 1

Can someone advice me on how to fix this?

Before I was using the petsc4py installed by ubuntu but I don't think it allows for complex numbers.

I think I found a solution. I looked around and found that if I changed to petsc4py/maint that seemed to help.
