Connected Textures

This section is TBD. For now see the Information for Texture Pack Authors section of the Minecraft Forum post.

MCPatcher offers a greatly enhanced version of the original Connected Textures Mod. Essentially, it is a system for artists to replace block textures using custom rules. For example, glass blocks in a 3x3 grid can merge together to form one large frame rather than 9 individual blocks.

In addition to several ways of connecting blocks to their neighbors, MCPatcher also offers random and repeat methods to add variety and reduce the appearance of tiling over large areas. Texture replacements can be further conditioned on any combination of block type, texture, metadata, face, biome, and height.

CTM rules are defined as properties files in the assets/minecraft/mcpatcher/ctm folder or any subfolder. Each properties file represents one block or tile override and contains a method, some supporting textures, and optional conditions like metadata or face. Multiple properties files can affect the same block or tile, but only the first matching one (in alphabetical order by filename) will be used.
