For packaging it is recommended to only use released versions of xnoise.

Packaging of xnoise from released source packages NEVER require having a dependency on VALA!

Releases are distributing the generated C code from the vala files!

Debian and Derivates

For Debian there is packaging/debianization data available in the source repo.

Hopefully xnoise will find a debian sponsor soon and then be officially available via debian testing.

Ubuntu is a Debian Derivate but there are some extra things with it, e.g. the soundmenu, which is available in ubuntu, only.

For Ubuntu there is packaging/debianization data available in the source repo.

Usually Ubuntu is packaged via the PPA.
