KEMIS email problem

Issue #1351 resolved
Ghislain Hachey created an issue

Sending email has been a problem for a long time in Kiribati. A number of issues were at play

  • The use of “less secure app” method with a Google account is not reliable as it turns itself off when not used for a period of time. And it is no longer the recommended method.
  • Outgoing traffic on port 587 needs to be enabled and SSL working

What has been done so far:

    • Move to the recommended app password with 2auth factor enable on the account used for sending out email
    • Verify Google account is in fact sending out email with the production configuration (i.e. Web.config). This was tested to work on another machine and network.

Remaining issues must be with server or network where KEMIS is hosted.

Creating a custom KEMIS email template like other countries instead of the default Pacific EMIS template. This is done in the software application and will require an update of the app.

It seems after above fixes it does work. I a lot of time troubleshooting SMTP issues only to find out my own user (and therefore email) were not even in the IdentitiesP database. I had no user to reset email! Users recently created for me must have been lost during the recent migration?!

Yes, I am a bit old school with Telnet (and OpenSSL for sending encrypted) but I’ll have a look at this one for windows.
