Volume being loaded just because an asset exists?

If a project contains a volume data asset then it seems the corresponding .vdb may be loaded by Cubiquity as soon as Unity is started, even it's the asset is not in the current scene. This needs investigation in both edit mode and play mode.

    The underlying .vdb is now loaded the first time the actual data is accessed, e.g by reading or writing a voxel.
