Open File Dialogue broken in PyQt5

Opening files using Qt File dialogues results in an error (e.g. loading flight tracks). Likely a cause due to commit ff23a9c26bd7ec803ff5f1091375bcdcfc8b830f for Py3 compatibility.

Works as intended in PyQt4. Did not test in Py3 under either Qt version.
