User is not able to View values in the comment field of the Timesheet Gadget report in “Details” screen even though comments are visible for individual users.

Issue #1039 resolved
Dhananjay Yadav created an issue

Hi team, In JIRA, in Timesheet gadget, user is not able to View values in the comment field of the Timesheet Gadget report in “Details” screen for project or Group. But when I select an individual user, comments are visible in detail section of time-sheet gadget. If we are adding ABP or Summary field on Timesheet Gadget of any project, then we are able to view the values of ABP and Summary but the value of comment is not visible.

    Hi Dhananjay,

It might be there is no comment for the entries displayed, as it looks like not all worklogs have comments in your case in second screen shot too.

However, I'm confused with first screenshot, there are hours for two days in first row in detailed part for issue DI-22009. I can't understand how it is possible. Worklog comment can be shown only in case when one worklog entry per row is displayed.

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

I have checked manually, and comments are exists for for the work log but still i am not able to see the comment in time-sheet gadget in detail section.

If i am adding the summery of issues, i am able to see the summery as well but comments are not visible. Why ??

If i am logged my work on same issue on Monday and Tuesday it will display in same row.

    Thanks.

    Hi Dhananjay,

Could you please clarify report parameters and plugin version? You can copy paste url from browser address bar and see version in the bottom of the screen.

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

In my Timesheet Gadget, i can select n number of custom fields. And every fields value, i am able to see but values of comments are not visible.

    Version - 2.8.2.7-JRA-32510 Add-on key - jira-timesheet-plugin License details - Unlimited-user commercial license, Standard, expires 30/Dec/17 License status - Valid License SEN - SEN-4447940

    Thanks.

I see, finally - you add Comment as Additional Field, but it is issue field, not worklog.

You should do Show Details: On instead, and remove Comment from Additional Fields.

  6. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

    I didn't get it.

See, I am saying is that if i didn't select anything from from additional field, then comments are visible for individual but when i select a project or group, values of comments are not visible for whole team. But, when i select an addition field like summary then values of summary is visible for individual as well as project. Why i am not able to see comments which are present in project story and project tasks ?

  7. Andriy Zhdanov

Worklog comment is shown in detailed report only, i.e. with Show Details: Checked On.

Additional field Comment is never shown, it is issue comment, and not supported.

Summary is issue summary and is supported, as other standard or custom issue fields.

Once more. Comment is not a normal field, it needs special support, but I don't think this is what you need. You just need to check on Show Details report parameter.

    Hi Andriy,

Can we do a screen sharing session on this, i am not able to understand your views?

I am available from 10AM to 5PM IST.

    Thanks

    Hi Dhananjay,

After phone call it's clear that you don't see Worklog Comment column in Group Timesheet, because of special preventive behaviour - plugin switches of Details when there is too much data, to prevent JIRA from OutOfMemory (see issue#669 for more details).

This behaviour can be configured in Administartion - Add-ons - Timesheet Configuration, using Worklog Limit option, in later plugin versions.

However, you have special patched version installed to workaround JRA-32510](https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-32510) problem. It might be that it no longer needed, though.

Please try installing latest plugin version, it is 2.9.7.7 at the moment, and see if it works.

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

Can you please tell me that, when plugin switches off Details ? How many number of characters are accepted in comments. ?? Have you implemented something in your code that, after N number of characters plugin switches off the details ? For eg - 2000 Characters.

Actually today, i am able to see the comments in detail section when i select a project.Comments.png

  11. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

It depends on number of worklogs in the report, and I believe threshold is 2400 by default.

    Thank you.

    Hi Andriy,

In Our project, we have logged less than 100 work-logs but still i am not able to see the comments.

    My Question is ->

Is it depends on number of work-log logged on timesheet gadget or the number of characters used in comment ?

  13. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

If Work-log is exceeds more than 2400 then, time-sheet plugin switches off the details. But in my case we have only 100 work-logs then why time-sheet plugin is not showing the details ??

  14. Andriy Zhdanov

It also depends on number of issues, in some cases. And I remember also there was a bug of determining whether to switch details off or not. In any case the best is if you try latest plugin version.

  15. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

    Thanks for your response.

Can you please tell me that, what is the threshold of Number of issues allowed in Time-sheet report ?

    Thanks.

  16. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

Show Details depends on number of issues in case of Show Empty Rows only, which does not seem to be relevant in your case.

So, looks like it depends only on number of worklogs in your case, and threshold is 2300. See also TimesheetService.java-121

  17. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

I have gone through your TimesheetService.java-121 and found that threshold of TimeSheet plugin is 2300 work-logs. So, what could be the issue with my plugin, i have logged only 100 work logs in my gadget.

    Please update on this issue.

I have asked this question 2-3 times.

    Thanks.

  18. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

Have you reproduce this defect at your end ?

is time sheet plugin switches off details after 100 work-logs as well ??

If not, then what is the issue ? why i am not able to see the values in comment section.

Please respond. I have to close this defect in my current sprint.

    Thanks

    Hi Andriy,

One last Query i want to ask you that, If i have logged around 1500 work-log and number of issues are also more than 1500. In that case also plugin switches off the details or not ?

Please reply as soon as possible.

    Thanks.

  20. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

Plugin switches of details if number of worklogs is more than 2300. I'm not sure how you count worklogs, though, you said 100, now you say 1500.

    Thank you.

  21. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

I am sorry, i have not counted the individuals work logs. Now i have counted all work-logs and they are around 1500 work logs. And we have more than 1500 issues.

earlier you were saying that It also depends on number of issues, in some cases. I think this may be the issue that plugin switches off the details. Can you please confirm the same ?

    Thanks.

  22. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

Number of issues is relevant in case of Show Empty Rows option enabled, only.

    Thank you.

  23. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

So what is the solution for it ? The only solution you are saying is that, we need to upgrade our time-sheet plugin ?

  24. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

Hi Andriy, Problem Statement - User is not able to View values in the comment field of the Timesheet Gadget report in “Details” screen even though comments are visible for individual users.

What have been clarified and checked - -> Number of work-logs should be less than 2300. -> I have marked show details checked.

Clarification - How many number of work-logs are accepted in current version ? is work-logs are less than 2300, then why it is disabling the details ?

I am uploading a Excel file, please go through with it. and please give me a proper solution for this. In my excel number of work-logs are 778. Still i am not able to see values of comment.

On which behalf, i can convince our management team and our Time-Sheet plugin users. Please give me a specific reason why it is happening ?

    Thanks

  25. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

I've just tried it on 2.8.2.7-JRA-32510 and can see that Show Details is switched off only when number of worklogs in the report exceeds 2300.

As additional help, you may enable debug logging for the plugin as described here, and see number of worklogs in your report logged as: Processed 1788 worklogs, for example. Note, you need to enable INFO logging for jira.plugin.report.timesheet package at a mininum.

    Thank you.

  26. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

Hi Andriy, Can you please show me through, screen sharing session that how you are counting the number of work-logs.

And the solution approach you have provided is not working at my end. Let's discuss both the issue through screen-sharing and finish this issue.

I am available from 9AM IST to 5PM IST.

    Thanks.

  27. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

    worklogCount is incremented at TimeBaseService-194

Though I can see small problem now. Worklogs are counted before they are filtered out. So it may be that some worklogs do not get into the report because of certain report criteria, but still counted, and thus may cause switching off details.

I may fix it in main branch, but do you need this to be fixed for patched version?

    Thank you.

  28. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

Yes, we need a fixed for the patched version. if you want the JAR file of the patched version, we can share that as well.

  29. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

I am installing this jar file on my non-production environment. But the version is not changed from last one. Should i have to uninstall the earlier one and then then i have to install this New JAR ?? if i will uninstall the earlier version, Data will be lost or not ??

    Thanks.

  30. Andriy Zhdanov

May be JIRA restart is needed. Or you can safely uninstall and install new version - now data will be lost.

  31. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

Hi Andriy, Comment field is visible now. but, few values are visible and few values are not visible inside comment field, Why ?

You can see the attachments as well.Comment-1.pngComment-2.png

If there is a tats ticket without any comment, and if i commented on that then i am not able to see that comment why ??

    Why this intermittent behavior ?

  32. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

Context is not clear enough, but on second screen shot you're showing issue comment, though in report you most likely expect worklog comments to be shown. Please make sure there are worklog comments for the worklog entries in the report.

    Thank you.

  33. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

that's what i try to explain,

-> If I tried to add comments for the Sub-Task, Comments are not Visible in the Time Sheet Gadget.

-> And there is comment on sub-task of DI-22029,but that comment is not visible inside detail report of time-sheet gadget. you ca see the comment of Ankita Bhardwaj. Comment of Ankita should be visible in side time-sheet report, but comment is not visible why ??

  34. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

As I've said, on your screen shot you're showing Comments tab. You should see Worklog tab instead.

    Thank you.

  35. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

I have logged a work-log on the same sub-task, but still i am not able to see the comments.

You can see the attachments. -> Comment-3.png

  36. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

Have you provided work description when you logged work? Please check if you can see the comment in Worklog tab of the issue.

    Thank you.

  37. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

Yes i have provided the work description.

You can see the attachments. -> Comment-4.png

  38. Dhananjay Yadav reporter

    Hi Andriy,

if i will directly commented on the issue type without any work-log. That comment will be visible or not inside detail report ?

  39. Andriy Zhdanov

    Hi Dhananjay,

Comment column in the report stands for Worklog Description. There is no way to map issue comments to wotklogs shown in the report.

    Thank you.
